(New York, Sony BMG) Celebrating over three decades of milestones, CHAKA KHAN adds another success to her list with the debut of her new CD FUNK THIS. Entering at #15 on the Billboard Top 200 chart, this marks Chaka's highest charting album in over 20 years when "I Feel For You" peaked at #14 in 1984.

FUNK THIS is her highest debuting album ever both on the Billboard Top 200 chart and on the Billboard R&B Album Chart, where she debuted at #5.

FUNK THIS, produced by the Grammy Award winners Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, embodies the funky soul of her musical roots with Rufus and her signature passionately-honest vocal styles that make Chaka Khan timeless.

The thoughtful work ranges from original copyrights, collaborations with superstar artists, to adding her signature stamp on important contemporary classics.

Two of the original's on FUNK THIS include "Disrespectful," the tour-de-force duet with powerhouse Mary J. Blige, and a poignant poetic ballad, "Angel." Both songs are climbing the charts steadily.

"Angel" which just secured the #4 position on the Urban AC Radio Chart is her first top 10 R&B radio hit in over 10 years. The remix of "Disrespectful (feat. Mary J. Blige)" gains heat at the clubs jumping to #11 on the Billboard Dance Chart.

Chaka Khan will join the musical production of "The Color Purple" in January as Sofia, the strong-willed character portrayed by Oprah Winfrey in the film version. Playing opposite her will be the gospel and R&B singer BeBe Winans.

Gloria Estefan and hubby Emilio continue to show us why they never go out of style. The couple hosted an intimate listening session at Sony Studios to preview Gloria's upcoming album by first plowing their guests with authentic mojitos-- fresh mint leaves and all.

The unofficial Miami mayors stayed true to their motto: music sounds better after a couple of cocktails. While that may apply to a lot of the crap you hear on today's airwaves, the six songs on this new project could be heard straight up with no chasers.

The title of the album "90 Millas," (90 miles) is short and sweet. But to Cuban Americans, it will have deeper meaning: 90 miles is not just the stretch that separates Florida and Cuba but a number that divides families, friends, a heritage and legacy. It brings to mind that famous Mexican saying: Poor Cuba, so close to the US, so far from God.

The concept album -- a tribute to Cuban music, from danzon, to rumba, mambo and what is known today as salsa -- took two years to make and it was produced by Emilio and the Gaitan Brothers. Emilio invited all the magnificent Cuban musicians alive today on this side of the stretch such as mambo legend Israel Cachao Lopez. He also invited others who are giants in Latin music, Puerto Rican Jose Feliciano and Mexican Americans Carlos Santana and Sheila E.

"No Llores," the single is a slamming number with Santana on guitar, Sheila E on timbales and Gloria on vocals. Two of the tracks pay tribute to the Lucumi religion. But, it's the sexy jam, "Te Odio" that features a sensual Gloria at her best. Written by Emilio, the song is about that one love that you hate because you love so much. Emilio confesses that life inspired that song but not one love in particular.

"Pintame de Colores" will probably be the featured song of the Panamerican Games this summer-- it has a little Latin America in every beat.

Gloria sings in her native Spanish and she wrote most of the songs. She says that her only wish was that Celia Cruz had been alive so that she would have recorded with the late music icon.

But, she needn't worry-- somehow Celia's spirit made its way to her recording... it's Cuban music after all.
