Chaka Nominated for Two Grammys
As Chaka Khan rehearses for her new role in Broadway's The Color Purple, her latest album FUNK THIS (Burgundy Records/Sony BMG) continues to gain momentum. Khan has been nominated for two Grammy awards for FUNK THIS in the categories R&B Album Of The Year and Best Vocal Performance By A Group or Duo for 'Disrespectful,' a hard-hitting duet that Chaka recorded with Mary J. Blige.
'Angel,' the first single from FUNK THIS has had tremendous success at Urban AC radio. It is currently #2 on the Adult Urban AC radio chart (right behind Alicia Keys) and has just been named one of the Top 50 Urban AC Songs Of 2007 by Nielsen BDS, securing spot #28 on that list.
'One For All Time,' the second single from FUNK THIS has also been embraced at radio as the most added song at Urban AC radio in its first week.

(New York, Sony BMG) Celebrating over three decades of milestones, CHAKA KHAN adds another success to her list with the debut of her new CD FUNK THIS. Entering at #15 on the Billboard Top 200 chart, this marks Chaka's highest charting album in over 20 years when "I Feel For You" peaked at #14 in 1984.
FUNK THIS is her highest debuting album ever both on the Billboard Top 200 chart and on the Billboard R&B Album Chart, where she debuted at #5.
FUNK THIS, produced by the Grammy Award winners Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, embodies the funky soul of her musical roots with Rufus and her signature passionately-honest vocal styles that make Chaka Khan timeless.
The thoughtful work ranges from original copyrights, collaborations with superstar artists, to adding her signature stamp on important contemporary classics.
Two of the original's on FUNK THIS include "Disrespectful," the tour-de-force duet with powerhouse Mary J. Blige, and a poignant poetic ballad, "Angel." Both songs are climbing the charts steadily.
"Angel" which just secured the #4 position on the Urban AC Radio Chart is her first top 10 R&B radio hit in over 10 years. The remix of "Disrespectful (feat. Mary J. Blige)" gains heat at the clubs jumping to #11 on the Billboard Dance Chart.
Chaka Khan will join the musical production of "The Color Purple" in January as Sofia, the strong-willed character portrayed by Oprah Winfrey in the film version. Playing opposite her will be the gospel and R&B singer BeBe Winans.
Chaka Khan embarks on her FUNK THIS tour starting October 6th.

Mixing covers with new material, Chaka Khan returns to her roots to deliver a renaissance album with "Funk This."
Forget neo-soul - this is real soul, with a good dose of funk mixed in. While Khan's dynamic, booming voice is enough to make any song a worthwhile listen, the album is enhanced by a great backing band, including Tony Maiden of the original Rufus band from Khan's early days, and Jesse Johnson from The Time (Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis are the album's producers).
Khan can put fluctuating textures on a sustained note; it makes for that trademarked Khan sound. That's very clear on the jazzy ballad "Angel," where she sings about the angel hiding deep inside that one day will be free. This original song and other ballads are emotional, powerful and flawless.
Then there are the covers. "Sign 'O' The Times" was a Prince hit but should become a Khan hit with her raw, earthy rendition. And old Rufus songs "Pack'd My Bags," and "You Got the Love," are fused into a funk fest jam.
Jimi Hendrix's "Castles Made of Sand" sounds like a duet between Khan and the guitar god, with fierce, intricate guitar work buoying Khan's powerful pipes. And the song "You Belong to Me" is reborn as a duet with Michael McDonald, as Khan stirs up the soul and McDonald supplies the mellow coolness.
CHECK THIS TRACK OUT: A cut written by Mary J. Blige, "Disrespectful," showcases Khan's easy ability to hit the high notes while the younger diva struggles to keep up. The drums swing with a funky groove. Khan does not need vocal accompaniment to sell this song.

Chaka Khan is Coming Home
Grammy award winner, Chaka Khan, returns to Chicago on May 1st for "The Experience" hosted by Dedry Jones.
